01 · The brief

What YaRabbi needed

An Islamic library is only useful if it is easy to move through: someone looking for a dua before travelling should not have to read an article to find it. The site had to hold several kinds of content — Quran, Hadith, duas, books, videos, reference articles — each with its own shape, and feed the same material to the RabbiAllah mobile app without anyone copying text twice.

02 · What I built

How it works

A WordPress build with eight content types behind it, so a dua, a hadith, a book and an article are each stored and displayed as what they are. The front end is a custom theme: a sectioned home page, Arabic set in a readable script beside transliteration and translation, and a menu that goes straight to the Quran, Hadith, duas, Hajj and Umrah, Ramadan, the 99 Names, the 40 Rabbana duas and the Q&A. A custom REST endpoint publishes the same content to the Android app, and readers can submit an article of their own.

  • Quran, Hadith, duas and zikir, the 99 Names and the 40 Rabbana duas
  • Hajj and Umrah guide, Ramadan and the Muslim festivals calendar
  • Books library, featured videos and an Islam-for-non-Muslims section
  • Questions and answers, Islamic glossary and a dhikr counter
  • Arabic shown with transliteration and translation together
  • The same content served to the Android app through a custom API

What it runs on

The tools behind the build and the job each one does.

01WordPressThe library behind both the site and the app, edited in one place.
02Custom post typesA dua, a hadith, a book and an article are each stored as what they are, not as generic posts.
03Custom themeThe sectioned home page, Arabic typography and the reading layouts.
04REST endpointPublishes the same content to the RabbiAllah Android app.
05Article submissionsReaders can send in a piece, which an editor reviews before it appears.
The result04 · Outcome

What it delivered

One library that serves two places at once: the website people find through search, and the app they keep on their phone — both updated by editing a single post.

  • Eight content types, from Quran and Hadith to books and videos
  • The same content served to the website and the Android app
  • Arabic, transliteration and translation shown together
  • Reader-submitted articles with an editorial step
